Measuring pH Level of Soil

Q. Why measure pH level of soil?

The pH level of soil and plant growth is strongly connected. Improper pH level can directly be the cause of poor plant growth, so effective adjustment is required.

Q. What is the proper pH level of soil?

Ideal pH level of soil for plant growth is around 6~7. Plants are said to grow well when the pH level of soil is 6.0~6.5. This is because the amount of nutrition a plant can consume depends on how acidic or alkaline the soil is. Acidic soil (less than 5.5) can result in poor plant growth due to issues such as aluminium toxicity, calcium and magnesium deficiency, and low levels of phosphorus and molybdenum which are essential nutrients for plant.
On the other hand, alkaline soil (greater than 8) can also result in deficiencies of nutrients like zinc, manganese etc. In order to correct the pH level, fertilizers are sometimes used. However, those adjustments can have little effect as time passes. In order to find plant growth issues at an early stage, regular checks of pH level is an essential daily routine.

Q. Why ATAGO’s PAL-pH?

There are many pH meters in the market. But why is ATAGO PAL-pH so special?

With PAL-pH, measurement can be done much easier and quicker!

Q. Are there other meters for soil management?

-Moisture Meter
To grow, plants need the proper amount of moisture in the soil. Most plants can thrive in soil with moisture levels between 20 to 60%. ATAGO’s Pocket Digital Soil Moisture Meter PAL-Soil measures both Gravimetric Soil Moisture% and Volmetric Soil Moisture% in one device. It has NFC function for transferring data to your phone/PC.

-Electric Conductivity Meter
Electric conductivity or EC is another indicator of soil health. By measuring EC, we can see the amount and loss of nutrients. ATAGO’s PAL-EC measures electric conductivity from 0.00 to 19.9mS/cm, and data can be transferred to a phone/PC using the NFC function.
